A familiar cup ramen in Korea Walk into a convenience store, supermarket, or tiny neighborhood shop in Korea and you are likely to spot Nongshim’s small shrimp-flavored cup noodles. The Korean name, Saeutang (seh-oo-tahng), refers to shrimp soup. It is one of those everyday products I see almost as often as Shin Ramyun. Korean convenience stores seem to have new cup noodles every time I visit. Many cost more and promise extra toppings, but I am not always convinced they taste better. To me, the appeal of instant ramen is still a quick, affordable meal. Shin Ramyun is the Nongshim cup nearly everyone in Korea knows. Mapo Jeongdaepo Galmaegisal Review: Korean Pork Skirt Meat in Seoul

Yesterday, I visited Jeongdaepo, a restaurant located in Mapo's Galmaegisal Alley in Seoul. I have been around Mapo Station and Gongdeok Station many times, but this was actually my first time visiting the galmaegisal alley. Galmaegisal (Korean pork skirt meat) is a cut of pork taken from around the diaphragm, and it is commonly served grilled at Korean barbecue restaurants. This is the inside of Mapo Jeongdaepo, a restaurant specializing in pork skirt meat. The restaurant itself looked quite old. It reminded me of the typical Korean barbecue restaurants you would see in the 1990s. These days, restaurants in Korea seem to be divided into two general styles. Some have a modern, Instagram-friendly interior, while others intentionally go for an old-fashioned retro look.
